The Caracol
has been shown to be an observatory that focused on the appearances
of Venus. David Freidel also believes it may be the ancient accession
building for
Chichén kings in the Classic Period. Of course, we know that in
the city's hegemonic
career in the Post Classic it had a form of a representative governing
structure.
To the south, off in the distance in this panorama, we can see the Monjas
temple pyramid.
