The
City of Meridá is the capital of Yucatan State and the
premier city of the peninsula. It was constructed on the ruins of the ancient Maya city of Tihó whose existence we know from references in the Chilam Balams, the Books of Prophecy. Taken from the ancient oral histories, in these accounts we hear mention of the great city now completely razed to the ground. The view above looks into the shade of the famous Zócalo which faces the Cathedral of San Idelfonso, the oldest cathedral in the Americas.
