The City of Meridá is the capital of Yucatan State and the premier city of the peninsula.
It was constructed on the ruins of the ancient Maya city of Tihó whose existence we know
from references in the Chilam Balams, the Books of Prophecy. Taken from the ancient
oral histories, in these accounts we hear mention of the great city now completely razed to
the ground. The view above looks into the shade of the famous Zócalo which faces the
Cathedral of San Idelfonso, the oldest cathedral in the Americas.
