Oxkintóch has recently emerged in the archaeology as an imperial power
in the western peninsula during the Early Classic Period. From the highest
pyramid temple, in this view to the north, we see the northernmost hills of the
Puuc Range. Swinging around to the southwest we can just make out a line
of temple mounds that point to the western horizon.
