Now open to view from the ruined north rooms of the Palace, the East Court was,
in ancient times, a private royal court, probably reserved for audiences, high affairs
of state, and for the parading ofwar captives who are depicted on the slanting stone
stelae flanking the stairs on the east (left) side of the court.
