Standing on the very edge of the grand mountain terrace that holds the city,
the North Group at Palenque opens out to a magnificent view across the vast
coastal plains known as Nonowal or Xicalanco to Post-classic peoples. In this
view to the south, though, we see first the Temple of the Count (Condé) and
further south to the central precinct of the Palace and Temple of Inscriptions.
