The Palace—The dynastic seat of Palenque kings and queens for half a millennium,
the
Palace was enlarged and completed by Pacal and his son, Chan Bahlum. One of
the supreme triumphs of Maya architects and builders, the spacious halls and rooms
are human-scaled and beautifully proportioned. The highly decorated mansard roofs
of the buildings here show the talent of this city of artists and shamans.
