From the south rampart of the Palace we glimpse the Tower standing sentinel in
the interior. Outside we have a good view of the Temple of Inscriptions and the
Cross Group, both framed by jungle-clad hills. Between them the River Otulum
issues forth from the steep canyon, called in ancient times, Toktan, " Cloud Center",
and orginating at this ancient place the kings were called "holy Toktan lords."
