Tulum was a Postclassic seaport town with a surrounding wall and a beautiful location.
Christopher Columbus probably caught sight of Tulum on his third voyage upon which he
reported encountering seagoing canoes of Maya traders in the Bay of Honduras. Although
a relatively minor Maya city, Tulum is the ruin most visited by tourists and unfortunately
forms the basis of most imaginations about the ancient Maya.
