The
Church at Yaxcabá witnessed terrible battles between
the whites and the Maya during the War of the Castes. The corner pillboxes and the musket-slits in the fortified buildings are evidence of the desperate sieges that both sides, in their turn, mounted or withstood in this place. Both sides suffered defeat and gained victory as this strategic place changed hands several times during the war. Click and drag on the image to view other portions of the panorama.
